Too remote to bother with if doing business: Verizon Internet card works poorly here, Hughes net provides internet at the adult lodge only, but most of the time is very slow and not use able.

Legal Notes

Check legal RV limits for this highway – Riverside Santa Barbara county Legal RV Map

RV Restrictions for all California – know your length limits before you tread in California. In California your RV weight limit is  20,500 pounds on any one axle. National weight code for Motorhomes on the Interstates: U.S. Code, Title 23, Section 127 allows buses and motor homes a maximum single-axle weight of 24,000.

California Weigh Station or scales are for commercial vehicles and rental trucks, RV’s only have to stop if flagged down somehow.

California Rest areas allow parking for eight hours, some have dump stations.

Does California require I have a special license to drive an RV? Your state drivers license if it allows you to drive you RV is good in California for same type of RV use as permitted to you in your state. California drivers need an endorsement and meet medical requirements.

Winter time driving and chain requirement in California. – Please refer to this document in the section labeled RV’s they say they may require both out and inner duals to be chained together under some circumstances. Use the document in the link above to get all the details. Too complicated for my brain, as my CPU is out of date, and I am shy on memory.

California Tolls suck but they are the law, and this is how you deal with them if you are wealthy enough to California. Gees with all these fees, it’s no wonder every one is said to be on government assistance.

Points of Interest

Description:

This is a rustic park in the Santa Barbara mountains. The main sites have sewer water and electric, are tight and offer little shade.  These sites are on a terraced hill side and offer wonderful views of the mountains out the back of your rig. Come in early May, the hills come alive with vegetation.

The road coming in here, reminds me of just how brave Californians are. It is a one lane road that goes for about a mile with cliffs on one side. The ranger asks that all leaving rigs depart early in the morning to minimize the chances of meeting oncoming rigs who are a bit earlier than they should be. There are some stretches of road where two rigs cannot pass, so one or the other must backup to wider spot in the road. Please yield to Motor homes towing cars, they cannot backup while the car is attached. If coming  to the park, come in the afternoon.

Make reservations before coming, when we arrived on a Tuesday there were only three sites for us to choose from. They did one nice thing, and placed the cabins and rental trailers in their own areas so we don’t have to camp in the midst of those.  Hopefully they will eventually separate the personal sites out as well.

That being said, this is a nice secluded park with a lot to offer. Make reservations so you know there will be a site, come around one for best results with the traffic. The staff here have been wonderful.  Max length rig, we don’t know, but during the time we were here we only saw one class “A” over 35′ not sure why, but the road in could play a part. We are at 32′ without the car attached, and plan to come again.

Sites are flat and terraced.
Outdoor laundry
Laundry is out side! Is it always nice in California? I would think the machines would freeze and break. Dryers and washers, we only found three in the entire park. No quarters to be found either, so bring bunch of them to the park with you.

Horse Shoes
Horse shoes, could not get the lighting to work out for a picture. They are 100% dirt, and they are in good condition. Unlike many campgrounds we have been to you have check out the horse shoes during business hours. 25% of the TT parks have been like that. If you travel the TT system, like we do, bring your own equipment. You can play when you want without having to trade your Drivers license or TT card for the equipment. Saves us headache of hunting down staff, and them headache of dropping what they are doing just so we can play a game. Not to mention losing your ID which has happened to us once due activity staff leaving early.

Very nice play ground, the equipment is nice and solid.

Odd building, thankfully not the family center. Looks like Ruins in the making.

Family center is a rather old, and very unique feature of the park

Ping Pong is the only indoor game for the kids. Sarah and I can’t play pool at this park either due to her age. Sadly we are losing our touch.

Old cellar cooled by a natural spring. The water runs all the time, but today is is used for nothing at all. The water runs out of the building and down a drain

They have stables, offer horse back rides and stuff. The stables have more than just horses.
Steak
We love steak, we could break this sucker down for at least two meals. Might fight over which third each of us gets. Cooking it would be no problem on the park grills. You all better keep an eye on this one. Should he disappear and leather wallets turn up in the country store you’ll know what happened. We got fat and happy, then returned finished wallets in thanks.

Great park, road in can cause one to soil his trousers, and maintaining contact with the outside world is something one should probably not plan to do. This is an awesome vacation destination where one really does get away from it all, but yet he is only 25 miles from the bustling city of Santa Barbara, Ca.
